Our Story

“There has to be a better way.”

These thoughts and the right amount of sheer stubbornness to want to do things well are what ultimately pushed Julie into launching Laurus into what it is today.

The formation of Laurus came upon the conclusion of a college soccer career with the University of Minnesota & after a decade accumulating elite youth and college coaching experience – truly understanding the front lines of competitive sport from multiple perspectives.

While employed as physical therapist at an insurance-based practice and continuing to coach, one of Julie’s own high-achieving college bound soccer players injured her ACL in the aftermath of the Great Recession. Julie took on the rehab of this player independently and quickly learned the value of being able to practice at the top of her PT license when not handcuffed by insurance companies and the corporate medical model.

In April 2010, Laurus was formed with the goal of finding a better way to specialize in the ACL rehab and prevention of competitive players. She supplemented her income by continuing to coach soccer as Laurus grew.

Hard work combined with the guidance of excellent mentors, millions of mistakes (most often not repeated), and good luck at the just the right times paved the way for Laurus as it’s known today – leading the way in blending the worlds of high-quality rehab and expert-led performance in a truly athlete-centered model.

The goal was simple back then & remains today:
Provide the most effective rehab experience available centered around the unique needs, motivations, and goals of the competitive athlete from post-injury to FULL return to play.

How?
Commit to a practice supported by the best available scientific evidence, experienced planning, informed decision-making, and delivered with the athlete at the center of it all.

Surround oneself by a team of co-workers equally driven by high quality work, shared values, and the freedom to consider better ways.
